Surgery in Anterior Mediastinal Mass Excision at Ram mangal heart foundation

Rasiklal M Dhariwal Heart Care and Research Center of Ram Mangal Heart Foundation is, one of the Pune's best cardiothoracic surgical centres, founded by Dr Ranjit Jagtap.  In November 2021, he successfully operated on a woman with a large chest tumour.

Mediastinal masses are a broad category of tumours and pseudo-tumours that can affect any of the mediastinum's compartments. Neurogenic tumours (20 percent of mediastinal tumours) are the most prevalent, usually found in the posterior mediastinum, followed by thymoma (15-20 percent) in the anterior mediastinum. Surgical excision of mediastinal masses usually results in a positive outcome.

History

A 52-year-old female patient was suffering with chest pain and shortness of breath when she was brought to the hospital.

Observations

They discovered that the patient had a massive mass encompassing more than 60% of the chest cavity and was putting pressure on the heart and lungs after doing X-rays, CT scans, and all pathology reports.

During surgery

After successfully operating the patient, an enormous mass of total 6kg in weight and total 30cm in length was removed from the chest cavity during surgery.

The patient was discharged in good health. The surgery went well. Dr. Ranjit Jagtap and his team did an incredible job, and this case of anterior mediastinal mass excision was one of several they saw in their hospital.

Because this condition is seldom encountered in clinical settings and tends to be asymptomatic until compression symptoms emerge, which leads to mediastinal mass syndrome, there have been few research on big anterior mediastinal masses (MMS). This is a significant challenge in patient care throughout the perioperative period. There aren't many centres with interdisciplinary teams of thoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, and oncologists to deal with such difficult situations.

Conclusion

In this series, the positive outcome of definitive surgery implies clinical viability and reasonable short-term safety. The successful treatment of this condition required a multidisciplinary approach with sufficient preoperative assessment, intraoperative preparation, and short- and long-term postoperative care.

Ram Mangal Heart Foundation is a complete thoracic surgery centre with the ability to manage such patients with positive outcomes.

The Impact of Air Pollution on Cardiovascular Health - Dr Ranjit Jagtap

Air pollution, often unseen and unnoticed, is a pervasive environmental hazard with far-reaching consequences. While its effects on respiratory health have been extensively studied and publicized, the impact on cardiovascular health remains a silent threat. In this blog post, we delve into the intricate relationship between air pollution and cardiovascular diseases, exploring the latest research findings and shedding light on the urgent need for collective action. Understanding the Link The connection between air pollution and cardiovascular health is multifaceted. Fine particulate matter (PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone, and other pollutants infiltrate the air we breathe, entering our bodies and initiating a cascade of physiological responses. Recent studies have shown a compelling association between long-term exposure to air pollution and an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure. HOW ARE DEPRESSION AND HEART HEALTH INTERRELATED? - Dr. Ranjit Jagtap

When you are depressed, anxious, or stressed, your heart rate and blood pressure increase, blood flow to your heart decreases, and your body produces high levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. Eventually, these consequences can result in heart disease. Depression and distress might tend to cultivate after cardiac episodes, involving strokes, and heart attacks. For numerous years, scientists have learned about the alliance between depression and heart disorders. More than a quarter of cardiac patients withstand depression, and people with depression are more plausible to develop cardiac disease. When people are stressed, anxious or depressed, they can feel overwhelmed and therefore less inclined to make healthy lifestyle choices. They are more likely to smoke, not exercise, sleep too much or too much, drink too much alcohol and not be able to take the prescribed medicine. Over time, these unhealthy habits can boost the risk of heart disease. Depression can make it arduous to even ge
