What are the benefits to the heart by controlling sugar levels in the body?

Health experts say that there is a direct link between blood sugar levels and heart disease. Diabetes is a major risk of heart disease. Therefore, achieving right blood sugar levels can go a long way in reducing cardiovascular disease.

According to  Dr. Ranjit Jagtap who is a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon in Pune says that type 1 and type 2 are two types of diabetic issues that are the most harmful risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Keeping blood sugar, hypertension, and cholesterol levels in control is the best way to reduce the risk of getting cardiovascular disease.

Studies show that type 2 diabetes patients are more likely to achieve blood sugar control and improve heart health. Type diabetes is affecting millions of people and is the most common type of diabetes in the world. When insulin is not properly used by humans it increases the risk of diabetes.

When glucose levels increase in the blood then it causes the blood vessels to contract which leads to higher blood pressure which is the main risk factor of getting heart disease. It also damages the nerves that are connected to the heart and reduces the amount of blood that reaches the other organs of the body.

When cholesterol is built up in the vessels, coronary arteries get hard which carries oxygen-rich blood from the heart to other parts of the body. This problem is generally seen in people with diabetes. If this gets worse sometimes there is a total blockage in blood vessels and there is a lack of blood flow which can lead to stroke. In these conditions, there is heart failure when the heart is not able to pump blood sufficiently.

There are several other effects as well that include vision problems, skin infections, slow healing of wounds, and intestinal problems. A diabetic person with uncontrolled sugar levels is more likely to suffer from heart disease.

Therefore, it is highly advisable to get proper treatment and reach out to the cardiac health specialist. Following are some tips to control your sugar levels.

  1. Medication and regular health check-ups are some of the methods to manage heart risks.
  2. Metformin is a type of medicine that is used to cure type 2 diabetes and both type1 and type 2 can be treated by consuming insulin.
  3.  In some cases, surgery can also be done for complications that occur due to diabetes.
  4. Follow a healthy diet on reducing the levels of high blood sugar, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure. This can be done by taking low-carb food and fiber-rich foods.
  5. Practice regular exercise or yoga daily to maintain a healthy weight. As obesity is a major concern of increasing sugar levels in your blood.
  6. Limit your carbohydrate and sugar intake. Practice doing heart pumping and aerobic exercises for heavy breathing.

For patients with type 2 diabetes, it is a long run. As this problem can’t be fixed quickly or in a limited period of time. It requires proper monitoring, guidance, and support. In women, it has been noticed that women of 60 years or younger are less likely to have low sugar levels and lower danger of heart-related problems. But if they suffer from type 2 diabetes then they have 4 times the risk of getting heart disease than men.

Work with your doctor if you have just noticed diabetic symptoms in yourself. Be sure to get your blood sugars checked and control as recommended.
